Fettes College: Fettes College is a unique and inspiring location, situated just one mile from the historic and cultural centre of Edinburgh.
David Bryce was a well-respected architect who was commissioned by the trustees of the Fettes Estate in 1857 when, after a number of years, his plans were finally accepted in 1864 and the foundation stone was laid that very year. By this time Bryce had made a name for himself and had been involved in a number of other projects which included the restoration of Rosslyn Chapel in 1862 and the Bank of Scotland Headquarters on the Mound.
Founded in 1870, Fettes College is the legacy of Sir William Fettes who, after the death of his son in 1815, devoted his wealth to building a school for children. Today, Fettes College is a leading co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 7-18. Fettes College enjoys a reputation for excellent academic results, the highest level of pastoral care and a proud sporting tradition.
The exterior of the Bryce building boasts a wealth of carvings, especially the pillar to the east of the main door and the coat of arms above the door. Each of the chimney stacks and hand-carved gargoyles have individual designs, perhaps influenced by Bryce’s early work at Rosslyn Chapel.
Outwith the Fettes College term time, Fettes the Venue offers 9 wedding dates only per year which ensures that your wedding is truly exclusive.
